Paramount+ has finally given a name to its upcoming true-crime anthology series centered on the JonBenét Ramsey case: Unspeakable: The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey. The title, while not reinventing the wheel, certainly leans into the enduring mystery and shock surrounding the young girl’s death. This first season of the anthology will focus solely on the Ramsey case, with subsequent seasons tackling other unsolved crimes.
The series boasts a notable cast, led by Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen as Patsy and John Ramsey, respectively. Production is already in full swing, with a supporting cast that includes Emily Mitchell, Garrett Hedlund, Alison Pill, Shea Whigham, Owen Teague, Clifton Collins Jr, Rory Cochrane, Chris Bauer, Angus Caldwell, Will Patton, John Billingsley, Jeremy Bobb, Jaime Ray Newman, Josh Stamberg, and Margo Martindale in a guest-starring role.
Richard LaGravenese serves as showrunner, while Anne Sewitsky will direct four of the eight episodes, including the premiere, and also executive produce. The series was originally sold to SHOWTIME/MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios by Harrison Query and Tommy Wallach. LaGravenese, Query, and Wallach also share writing and executive producing credits. Joining them in the executive producer ranks are David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, David Hutkin, Melissa McCarthy herself, and Sewitsky.
Unspeakable: The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey will stream exclusively on Paramount+. While the true-crime genre is overflowing, the Ramsey case continues to hold a particular morbid fascination, so the series will likely garner significant attention upon release. Now, we just need a premiere date.
