Paranormal Britain’s Last Witch: Bringing Back the Dead (BBC Three, Sunday, March 30, 2025)

Paranormal Key Art

BBC Three’s “Paranormal Britain’s Last Witch” continues this Sunday with a third episode that blurs the lines between the supernatural and wartime intrigue. Investigator Sian continues the story of Helen Duncan, a medium known for her supposed ability to physically manifest spirits during séances. But did one of her séances reveal a state secret that would have been impossible to know?

In “Bringing Back the Dead,” Sian travels to the Netherlands to witness a physical séance firsthand, seeking to understand the methods and motivations behind these practices. She confronts a medium about the possibility of trickery and deception, raising questions about the veracity of these otherworldly encounters.

The episode centers on a particularly chilling account of Duncan seemingly bringing back a sailor from the recently sunk HMS Barham – information classified at the time. Sian uncovers a recently declassified MI5 diary which reveals they had been monitoring Helen Duncan for years, adding further mystery to the story. Was Duncan truly communicating with the beyond, or was there a more earthly explanation for her apparent knowledge?
