Parole Series 2 To Air Soon on BBC Two

Parole Key Art

BBC iPlayer and BBC Two will air the second series of ‘Parole’, looking into the workings of Britain’s Parole Boards and the criminal justice system. With rare access, the series provides an insight into the decisions that impact the lives of convicted criminals and their potential release into society.

In England and Wales, approximately 16,000 of the most dangerous offenders are considered for parole each year, with around 4,000 being released. The Parole Board, consisting of 321 members, holds the responsibility of determining eligibility for release. This series places viewers at the centre of these critical Parole Board hearings.

The new four part series, filmed over several months, will also focus on prisoners serving Imprisonment for Public Protection (IPP) sentences, a type of sentence with no fixed end date. IPP prisoners can only be considered for release through Parole Board hearings, where the board must carefully balance public safety with the prisoner’s case for release.
