Hallmark Channel’s globe-trotting movie series, Passport to Love, sets its sights on Italy this week with “Villa Amore,” a story that combines romance with a fixer-upper plot. The film follows Liara, a woman who makes an impulsive decision to buy the very villa where her parents first fell in love. It’s a grand romantic gesture that quickly collides with the reality of crumbling infrastructure.
Liara soon finds she is completely out of her depth with the extensive renovations required to make the villa livable. The project is overwhelming, the costs are mounting, and her dream is on the verge of becoming a financial nightmare. Her solution arrives in the form of a man who is, in true Hallmark fashion, both conveniently available and professionally overqualified: a lawyer who now works as a handyman.
As the two work together to restore the property, they also begin to build a connection, all set against the picturesque Italian landscape. The two-hour movie hits all the expected notes for the network: a story of second chances, a nod to family history, and a romance that blossoms under scenic circumstances.
