Patrick Dempsey is set to star in Memory of a Killer, a new dramatic thriller series greenlit at Fox. The project, inspired by the 2003 Belgian film De Zaak Alzheimer (also known internationally as The Memory of a Killer), was announced today during the Fox Entertainment Upfront Presentation for the 2025-2026 season. Warner Bros. Television and Fox Entertainment are the studios.
Dempsey will play Angelo Ledda, a veteran New York City hitman whose life takes a dramatic turn when he’s diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s. Living a double life as a seemingly innocuous photocopier salesman and devoted father in Cooperstown, NY, Ledda’s carefully constructed world begins to unravel. The series will track his battle as the disease progresses, escalating when his pregnant daughter comes under attack.
As his memory fades, Ledda starts to question the circumstances of his wife’s recent death, suspecting foul play. This propels him to revisit his past assignments for clues, a dangerous endeavor given his deteriorating condition. The narrative centers on Ledda’s desperate attempts to protect his family and neutralize a mortal enemy, all while concealing his Alzheimer’s. The series is positioned as a story of redemption, where a man losing his memory fights to reclaim his conscience and save those he loves.
Ed Whitmore and Tracey Malone are on board as executive producers. They are joined by Cathy Schulman, Arthur Sarkissian, Martin Campbell (who directed the 2022 U.S. film adaptation Memory, starring Liam Neeson, based on the same Belgian source material), and Peter Bouckaert (who produced the original 2003 Belgian film).
Dempsey is repped by UTA, The Burstein Company, and Goodman Genow Schenkman Smelkinson & Christopher.
