A double dose of homicide hits hard in TV One’s “Payback: Deadly Duo,” demanding a swift resolution from our beleaguered detectives. When a rancher stumbles upon the body of a young man, the seemingly isolated incident quickly spirals into a complicated investigation. The victim’s phone records offer a sliver of hope, a breadcrumb trail in the vast wilderness of clues. But just as detectives begin to piece together a narrative, a second body surfaces, mirroring the first in unsettling detail. Suddenly, a single murder becomes a double, and the pressure mounts to find the connection before another life is lost.
The detectives in “Payback” aren’t exactly known for their sunny dispositions or their unwavering belief in the goodness of humanity. They’ve seen it all, and usually the “all” involves a healthy dose of betrayal and greed. So, when two bodies turn up bearing eerie similarities, they’re not exactly shocked. More like grimly resigned. This isn’t a case of a whodunit; it’s a whydunit, and howdunit, and possibly a where-will-they-find-the-next-body-unit. “Deadly Duo” certainly gives the impression that the killer isn’t working alone – untangling the web of relationships, motives, and alibis suddenly becomes exponentially trickier.
“Payback: Deadly Duo” airs Monday, December 9, at 10:00 PM on TV One.
