On Monday, A Place in the Sun heads to the Costa del Sol, where a UK family seeks a multi-generational holiday home. Presenter Ben Hillman has his work cut out for him as he tries to satisfy not just a couple nearing retirement, but their entire clan. Glenda and Adrian, our soon-to-be-retired couple, are on the hunt for a property near the beach and within striking distance of Marbella—all for the princely sum of £95,000. Because apparently, beachfront property in one of Spain’s most desirable locations is now bargain-basement priced. Okay, then.
Hillman, ever the optimist, presents five properties, presumably ranging from charming fixer-uppers to slightly less charming fixer-uppers. The real estate market being what it is, one can only imagine the compromises involved. Will they find a place with enough space for the kids and grandkids? Will it have a pool? Will it even have a functioning roof?
The ongoing appeal of this series lies in its potent cocktail of escapism and vicarious house hunting. Viewers get to dream of warmer climes while simultaneously judging the questionable taste and even more questionable budgets of the house hunters.
A Place in the Sun airs Monday, February 3, 2025 on Channel 4.
