Hallmark viewers, prepare yourselves for a trip to Antarctica—though perhaps not in the way you might expect. “Polar Opposites” introduces Emma (Rhiannon Fish), a woman on a mission to reach her father stationed in the frosty continent. But when her travel plans hit a snag in South America, Emma takes a decidedly unconventional approach: stowing away on a cruise ship. Subtlety isn’t her strong suit, one assumes.
Naturally, this sets the stage for a meet-cute with the ship’s engineer, Andy (Markian Tarasiuk), because what’s a Hallmark movie without a dash of romance amidst the potential international incidents? While the premise might stretch credulity, it’s par for the course in the world of heartwarming television. Expect scenic vistas, contrived situations, and enough manufactured tension to fill a penguin’s freezer.
Will Emma’s clandestine journey succeed? Will Andy be charmed by her audacity or appalled by her disregard for maritime law? Will her father even be there when she finally arrives? “Polar Opposites” may not reinvent the wheel, but it offers the familiar comfort of a Hallmark story: predictable, occasionally preposterous, but ultimately pleasant.
