Sun, sand, and…squatters? BBC One’s “Policing Paradise” takes us beyond the postcard-perfect image of Bermuda, revealing the everyday realities of law enforcement in this island nation. This Tuesday’s episode follows officers as they tackle the unique challenges that come with maintaining order in a seemingly idyllic setting.
Ride along with officers Krishna Singh and Chris Douglas as they go about their daily routines, encountering situations that are both familiar and distinctly Bermudian. From traffic stops involving unlicensed mopeds to a false alarm involving suspected illegal drugs in the luggage of American tourists, the episode is a window into the wide range of incidents faced by Bermuda’s police force.
We also learn about the varied backgrounds of the officers themselves. Krishna Singh, originally an accountant from Trinidad, traded spreadsheets for a badge 27 years ago after a vacation to Bermuda inspired a career change. The episode also introduces us to K9 unit dog handler Robin MacNab and her detection dog Roni, whose commands are given in Dutch, a nod to her European origins. And on a more serious note, the officers deal with a homeless man squatting in a government building. “Policing Paradise” airs Tuesday, April 8th at 2:00 PM on BBC One.
