The Cup Match celebrations continue in Bermuda, and with them, the challenges for the island’s police force. In this Thursday’s episode of “Policing Paradise,” the pressure is on as the cricket tournament reaches its climax, and the party atmosphere spills over onto both land and sea.
At the cricket stadium, Officers Crystal Correia and Litanya Smith witness the final moments of the match between bitter rivals Somerset and St George’s. The tension boils over after Somerset claims victory leading to a heated confrontation between passionate fans, resulting in an arrest made by constables at the ground. Meanwhile, out on the water, British reserve officer Hugo Benziger joins his coastguard colleagues to patrol the raft-up parties, a Bermuda Cup Match tradition that sees thousands of boats gathered together. They monitor alcohol consumption and ensure vessel safety amongst the revellers.
Back on land, Constables Imani Scott and Daischon Chin respond to a moped crash involving two tourists, a stark reminder of the dangers faced by visitors unfamiliar with Bermuda’s roads. Bike impound officer Mark Lewis, having personally experienced the loss of friends and family in traffic collisions, understands these risks all too well.
“Policing Paradise” airs Thursday, April 10 at 2:00 PM on BBC One.
