An extensive archaeological excavation in Pompeii, one of the most well-known ancient cities, is the subject of this three-part documentary series. Over nearly two years, the film crew was granted exclusive access to follow an all-Italian team of archaeologists as they explored Insula 10, a city block in the northern part of Pompeii.
The series, premiering on SBS and SBS on Demand on Sunday, 18 August 2024, at 7:30 pm, offers insight into the past. The team aims to investigate the buildings within Insula 10, understanding their purpose and the people who once occupied them. Each discovery reveals more about the catastrophic eruption that engulfed the city.
The excavation uncovers a range of findings, including victims’ remains, workers’ tools, a commercial bakery, an upscale laundry, charcoal drawings of gladiators, and a 2000-year-old fresco featuring a pizza. The artifacts provide a glimpse into Pompeian life.
Pompeii: The New Dig broadcasts in three parts on Sunday, 18 August 2024, from 7.30 pm on SBS and SBS on Demand.
