For television fans whose knowledge is stronger on blockbuster movies than it is on 19th-century literature, Netflix has welcome news. The streamer has renewed Pop Culture Jeopardy!, its faster, team-based spinoff of the classic quiz show, for a second season. The new tournament, produced by Sony Pictures Television, is scheduled to arrive in 2026.
The series successfully modifies the DNA of its famously rigorous parent show, keeping the signature “answer-and-question” format but jettisoning the academic categories. Instead, contestants compete in teams to prove their mastery of the modern zeitgeist, facing a board filled with topics from across the entertainment landscape. The result is a game that values knowing a Taylor Swift lyric as much as a presidential fact.
“Pop Culture Jeopardy! captivated an audience with its fun and energetic game play,” said Suzanne Prete, President of Game Shows at Sony Pictures Television, in a statement confirming the renewal. Prete noted that the format offered fans a new “opportunity to test their zeitgeist knowledge.”
Multiple Emmy Award winner Michael Davies, who oversees the main Jeopardy! franchise, will continue as executive producer. For those who think they have the pop culture credentials to compete, Sony has already opened the doors; contestant applications are now being accepted through the official Jeopardy website.
