In the upcoming episode of Poppa’s House titled “Brokeback,” Damon Wayans’s Poppa finds himself in familiar territory: facing a stubborn problem with an equally stubborn solution. Or lack thereof. This time, it’s a bad back causing him serious discomfort. But, in true Poppa fashion, a trip to the doctor is out of the question. Cue Ivy (Essence Atkins), armed with her trademark no-nonsense approach to Poppa’s antics. Her offer to stay the night and care for him sets the stage for what appears to be an amusing clash of wills, the kind that fuels the sitcom’s family dynamic.
While Poppa grapples with his aching back and Ivy’s well-intentioned but potentially overbearing care, another family skirmish brews. Nina (Tetona Jackson) unleashes a prank on Junior (Damon Wayans Jr.) involving a “lost” wedding ring. Given Junior’s generally easygoing nature, this should provide ample opportunity for some classic sitcom misunderstanding-fueled hijinks.
Will Poppa finally relent and seek medical attention? Will Junior realize he’s been duped before Nina’s prank escalates? We’ll find out when “Brokeback,” penned by Michael Wayans and directed by Kim Wayans, airs on Monday.
