Poppa’s House “School Days”

Poppa's House Key Art

The fourth episode of CBS’s “Poppa’s House” seems poised to deliver a sitcom staple: the clash of wills between parents and grandparents, this time over the ever-thorny issue of private school tuition. In “School Days,” Poppa finds himself at odds with his daughter Nina and her husband, Junior, regarding the educational future of their son. Poppa, apparently a believer in the virtues of public education (or perhaps just fiscal prudence), balks at the idea of shelling out for private school.

Adding fuel to this familial fire are the meddling presences of Poppa’s ex-wife, Catherine (Wendy Raquel Robinson), and Nina’s father, JJ (Geoffrey Owens). These grandparental figures, firmly in the pro-private school camp, insert themselves into the discussion, attempting to sway Poppa and likely creating more comedic chaos in the process. Expect plenty of eye-rolls, exasperated sighs, and maybe a well-timed wisecrack or two as this generational tug-of-war plays out.

“Poppa’s House,” starring Damon Wayans, Damon Wayans Jr and Essence Atkins, follows a talk radio host’s attempt to manage family life in the wake of divorce. While the setup isn’t groundbreaking, “School Days” offers a relatable conflict likely to resonate with audiences familiar with the joys and headaches of family decision-making.
