“Poppa’s House” Preview: A Dramatic Makeover is Coming in “Wig”

Poppa's House Key Art

CBS’s new sitcom Poppa’s House seems to be finding its comedic stride. In the upcoming episode, “Wig,” airing December 16, the titular Poppa (Damon Wayans) faces some seriously bad news and his reaction is, shall we say, follicularly flamboyant. Apparently, when life gives Poppa lemons, he doesn’t make lemonade — he buys a wig. And not just any wig, mind you. Think less “subtle enhancement” and more “Liberace on a Tuesday.”

The episode, written by Phil Beauman and Shawn Wayans and directed by Robert Townsend, hints at some genuine character development beneath the laughs. How Poppa’s outlandish new ‘do affects his family and, more importantly, his already fragile ego will be the crux of the comedic conflict. Will the wig be a symbol of empowerment or a cry for help disguised as a fashion statement? Or perhaps it will just be very, very funny.
