POV: Break the Game (PBS, Monday, April 7, 2025)

POV Key Art

PBS’s “POV” documentary series continues its tradition of giving voice to underrepresented stories. This Monday, “Break the Game” examines the complicated world of online gaming, exploring issues of identity, online harassment, and mental health through the experience of Narcissa Wright, a trans woman and world-record-holding speedrunner.

Wright’s story is one of triumph and adversity. Once a celebrated figure in the gaming community, she lost a significant portion of her fanbase after coming out as transgender. “Break the Game” follows her attempt to reclaim her place in the gaming world by setting a new speedrunning record in “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.” But the film goes beyond the game itself, exploring the emotional toll of online harassment and the pressure of maintaining an online persona.

“Break the Game” provides a window into the often-toxic culture of online gaming while also highlighting the resilience of those who dare to be themselves in the face of adversity. This poignant documentary airs Monday, April 7 at 10:00 PM ET on PBS.
