“Who I am Not,” the latest installment of PBS’s “POV,” tells the story of Sharon-Rose Khumalo, a South African beauty queen whose life takes a dramatic turn after a medical discovery reveals she is intersex. This revelation throws her into a personal crisis, forcing her to confront deeply ingrained societal expectations surrounding gender.

The documentary also introduces Dimakatso Sebidi, a masculine-presenting intersex activist whose journey intertwines with Khumalo’s. Together, their stories offer a powerful lens through which to examine the challenges and stigmatization faced by intersex individuals in a world often rigidly defined by a binary view of gender.
