Nobody expects a genteel British baking dame to drop an f-bomb—or, in this case, a close cousin—on morning television. But that’s precisely the delicious chaos Prue Leith unleashed on a recent episode of “Live with Kelly and Mark,” leaving Kelly Ripa in stitches and the censors scrambling.
While discussing King Charles’ tea preferences—yes, this was a real topic of conversation—Leith veered sharply off the Earl Grey-paved path. Her Majesty, she mused, might favor something a bit more…earthy. “He’s quite a hippie, so he’d have all this… hippie s**t,” she declared, before the offending word was promptly bleeped. Check out the video below.
Ripa, ever the unflappable professional, handled the situation with her trademark wit. “American treasure!” she exclaimed, embracing the unexpected turn of events with the enthusiasm of a seasoned daytime TV veteran. Mark Consuelos, meanwhile, seemed momentarily speechless, perhaps pondering the very nature of “hippie s**t” tea.
While the exact nature of the censored tea remains a mystery, Leith’s remarks seemed to stem from a discussion about King Charles’ well-known environmentalism. One might assume, then, that “hippie s**t” refers to some sort of organic, sustainably sourced, fair-trade brew. Or perhaps it’s just tea that pairs well with patchouli and a sitar solo. We will never know now of course – if only Kelly had let Prue go deep on this one.
Beyond the royal tea debacle, the episode also focused on more traditional Thanksgiving fare. Leith offered her expertise on preparing a festive roast turkey, while cookbook author Tieghan Gerard demonstrated a recipe for roasted turkey parts. Practical advice, yes, but it’s the unexpected moments that truly spice up morning television.
Live with Kelly and Mark airs weekdays at 9:00 AM on ABC.
