Psychology Grad’s Puzzle-Solving Skills Take a Dip on Wheel of Fortune

A doctorate in psychology didn’t prevent one Wheel of Fortune contestant on the October 30 episode from making a truly head-scratching move. Sharay Grant, a recent psychology grad, found herself just two letters shy of solving a “Same Name” puzzle. With the board reading “CAR & IN_INIT_ POOL,” Grant decided against solving, spun the wheel again, and then asked for… a “B.”

Host Ryan Seacrest had the unenviable task of informing Grant that there was no “B” on the board. Co-host Vanna White’s reaction – a classic head tilt of pity – only amplified the awkwardness of the situation. Grant’s competitor, Ryan Burkett, quickly swooped in, correctly solving “CAR & INFINITY POOL” and ultimately winning the game, including a $100,000 bonus round prize.

While Burkett’s “Local Bakery” win was impressive, the night undoubtedly belonged to Grant’s “B” for bewildering blunder. The moment left viewers wondering how someone so close to solving could make such a seemingly illogical choice. Perhaps all those years of studying the human mind led Grant to overthink the puzzle, proving that even brainy contestants can fall prey to the pressures of the Wheel.
