Rachel Stevens will miss this Sunday night’s live edition of ITV’s Dancing on Ice after fracturing her wrist during a fall in training.

DOI always tends to be a show with a high injury count given just how hard the format is for contestants who don’t necessarily have a lot of experience on the ice.

A DOI spokesman said “Due to an injury sustained in training and on the expert advice from the Dancing On Ice medical professionals, Rachel Stevens will not skate in this Sunday’s show. We look forward to her returning to the show next weekend.”

In our interview with Rachel she noted that she hadn’t been on the ice since childhood: “When I was ten [years old] I skated. I got really into it and I got my own boots. I used to go with friends and I really fell in love with it but you know when you’re that age you have no fear. I moved on to something else and didn’t stick with it but I really loved it. When I got back on the ice recently for the first time for Dancing On Ice I was definitely wobbly.”

That means, all being well, Rachel and partner Brendyn Hatfield, should be making their first live appearance in week 3 on Sunday 30 January.

Taking part on Sunday nights show will be Ben Foden, Liberty Poole, Regan Gascoigne, Connor Ball and Stef Reid. The judges are Oti Mabuse, Ashley Banjo and Torvill and Dean.
