Ready to Love: Comedy, Connections, and Cuts! (OWN, Friday, February 21, 2025)

Ready to Love New Season Key Art

Nineteen singles brave the spotlight, not of a confessional booth, but a comedy club, in this week’s Ready to Love. Host Tommy Miles, ever the romantic orchestrator, clearly believes laughter is the best aphrodisiac. He’s herding the remaining hopefuls from the previous mixers into this new arena, hoping for sparks to fly amidst the punchlines. Will the change of venue bring about a change of heart for anyone? Or will the pressure of a public setting just amplify existing awkwardness?

This season, the show continues its focus on the often-complicated world of dating for Black men and women in their 30s and 40s. This demographic, often overlooked by the reality dating industrial complex, gets another shot at finding a connection. After all, shouldn’t love be ageless (and possibly hilarious)?

This week, the ladies hold the power, and with that power comes the difficult decision of sending one gentleman packing. Who will crack under the pressure, and whose jokes will fall flatter than a week-old Shirley Temple? Will the comedy club setting encourage genuine connections or simply provide more fodder for nervous laughter and forced smiles?

One thing’s for certain: the inherent vulnerability of both comedy and dating makes for a potent combination. Ready to Love excels at capturing those cringe-worthy moments and the surprising bursts of genuine emotion that come from putting yourself out there.
