Based on Sally Andrew’s acclaimed and bestselling A Tannie Maria Mystery novels, this crime drama series premieres on free-to-air television. Set in the vibrant region of the Karoo in South Africa, the story follows Maria (Maria Doyle Kennedy), an advice columnist for a small-town newspaper who includes tasty recipes with her guidance.
In the first episode, ‘Bereft Woman,’ Maria faces a challenge when her newspaper editor, Hattie, informs her that the recipe column will be discontinued. Determined to continue offering her unique blend of advice and culinary delights, Maria competes with rookie journalist Jessie (Kylie Fisher) for the opportunity to write a new advice column. Of course, Maria ensures that a recipe is included as well.
The plot takes a dark turn when one of Maria’s letter writers, a woman with an abusive husband, is found dead. The victim is identified as Martine, and Maria, along with Jessie, decides to take matters into their own hands. They set out to solve the murder in their small South African town, much to the annoyance of police detective Khaya (Tony Kgoroge, known for Invictus). Will their investigation lead them into dangerous territory?
