Redbox Expands Catalog and Niche Titles to Cater to Former Netflix DVD Customers

Redbox is expanding its selection of movies in its kiosks to cater to former Netflix DVD customers. With Netflix shutting down its DVD operations, Redbox is stepping in to provide content that its audience would enjoy. This includes a variety of titles, such as hard-to-find films like Ugly Dolls and catalog titles like Jerry Maguire. Additionally, Redbox, which has 29,000 kiosks nationwide, will offer films from third-party distributors like Vertical and Decal. These new titles are in addition to the latest films from major studios, including popular hits like Oppenheimer and Barbie.
To engage with DVD fans, Redbox is launching a social media campaign called “Show Us Your Red Envelope” on X (formerly known as Twitter). From September 29 to October 1, Redbox is encouraging customers to share photos of their Netflix Red Envelopes. Participants may have a chance to receive a free movie night as a reward. Former DVD.com customers can also submit their suggestions for movie titles they would like to rent from Redbox kiosks.
Redbox has been in the movie rental business for over 20 years and has rented over two billion discs across thousands of titles. To put things into perspective, if you were to line up all the Redbox DVD cases, they would wrap around the earth twice. This year, some of the most popular films at Redbox kiosks include The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Plane, and Cocaine Bear.
William J. Rouhana, Jr., chief executive officer and chairman of Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment saif of the news “Redbox continues to be a destination for millions of consumers, and we’re thrilled to expand our kiosk offerings to include hard-to-find titles and classic movies that everyone enjoys. We are expanding our content offerings at approximately 29,000 kiosks to include third-party studio titles and new movies such as Barbie and Oppenheimer, which will be available in the coming months. I look forward to hearing from former DVD.com customers on the titles they want to see at our kiosks.”
Redbox also offers a free streaming service which you can access via the Redbox app, users may watch free movies on demand, watch free live TV channels, and rent or buy movies. It’s compatible with many different brands and models of TV, including Samsung, Roku, LG, and VIZIO.
