The Repair Shop team packs up its tools and heads north to Scotland, bringing their restoration expertise to a historic community project in the premiere episode of The Repair Shop on the Road. Trading their familiar barn for the picturesque landscapes of Perthshire, the team embraces new challenges and heartwarming stories.
Will and Dom journey to the Crannog Centre in Aberfeldy, a unique historical site dedicated to recreating ancient loch dwellings. Devastated by a fire three years prior, the center is slowly being rebuilt, and the Repair Shop team arrives to lend a hand. Thatcher Scott, a skilled craftsman, leads the effort to construct a new cookhouse using traditional methods, a project that could revitalize the center and provide a valuable resource for the local community.
Elsewhere in Perthshire, Will encounters Ian, a man battling motor neurone disease, who possesses a damaged Gaelic piping music book passed down from a Crimean War hero. With time running short, Ian hopes to see the fragile book restored so he can pass it on to his son. Bookbinder Chris Shaw takes on the delicate task, hoping to preserve this precious family heirloom.
Adding a further historical twist, Dom visits a family-run business in Perth specializing in traditional sporrans, a craft with roots in the 12th century. Dom gets a hands-on lesson in leatherworking, providing a glimpse into the artistry and dedication behind this ancient Scottish tradition.
The Repair Shop on the Road airs Monday, February 3, 2025, on BBC One.
