“The Repair Shop” returns to BBC One this Wednesday, with another round of heartwarming restorations and the stories behind cherished possessions. From braille watches to vintage projectors and antique fire screens, the team of experts tackles a range of items, each carrying a weight of memory and sentimental value.
Keith and Kirsty bring in a unique piece: a braille watch gifted to Keith’s blind father, Desmond, a resilient engineer. Horologist Steve Fletcher takes on the challenge, not only restoring the watch but modifying it with a hinged case so the wearer can feel the braille dial. The goal is to pass this treasured heirloom to Kirsty’s blind daughter, a touching tribute to Desmond’s legacy.
Meanwhile, siblings Zaff and Nasari present their father’s vintage projector to Mark Stuckey. The projector represents a link to their life in Uganda before fleeing to Rochdale in 1972, a tangible piece of their family history. And for Zoe Blake-James and her grandmother Rowan, a 130-year-old fire screen holds four generations of family history, a delicate restoration project undertaken by Will Kirk and textiles expert Rebecca Bissonnet. Even veteran singer-songwriter Ralph McTell makes an appearance, seeking Suzie Fletcher’s expert touch on a leather kangaroo toy named Kenny, destined for use in music therapy sessions for children with special needs. “The Repair Shop” airs Wednesday, April 2nd at 8:00 PM on BBC One.
