There’s a particular kind of magic that happens in “The Repair Shop.” It’s not just about fixing broken objects; it’s about restoring memories, reconnecting people with their past, and giving new life to treasured possessions. This week’s episode features a quartet of repairs, each with its own poignant story.

Zelda brings in a ring, a simple band that carries the weight of family history. After her father’s passing, the original onyx stone was replaced with an amethyst. Now, Zelda hopes to have the ring restored to its original form, a tangible link to her childhood memories. Goldsmith Richard Talman and Sonnaz Nooranvary take on the delicate task.

A cracked and silent mechanical doll is Ian’s connection to his late sister, Denise. The doll’s broken state mirrors Ian’s own grief. Toy restorers Julie Tatchell and Amanda Middleditch, along with mechanical expert David Burville, work together to bring the doll back to life, hoping to give Ian a piece of his sister back.

Kevin arrives with a piece of musical history: a 1920s banner from the Milburn Toffs Jazz Band. The banner features a photo of Kevin’s father as a young boy and represents a unique slice of working-class history. Art conservator Lucia Scalisi and textile conservator Rebecca Bissonnet collaborate to restore the banner’s faded glory. Finally, there’s Dylan and his cherished wooden whirligig, crafted by his grandfather. The whirligig became a symbol of support for Dylan as he faced the challenges of MDP syndrome. Will Kirk takes on the repair, understanding the deep personal significance of the whirligig. Catch “The Repair Shop” on Wednesday, March 26th at 20:00 on BBC One.
