In the fifth episode of Rescue 999: Seconds to Save a Life, the East Anglian Air Ambulance rushes to a serious road traffic collision, where a car has crashed into a tree. The casualty requires extraction from the mangled vehicle and immediate attention to potential life-threatening injuries. With no witnesses to the accident, the team pieces together the events leading up to the crash, discovering that the family was expecting the victim for a 50th birthday celebration.

In another incident, the Wiltshire Air Ambulance is dispatched to assist a window cleaner who has fallen from a ladder and become trapped in a bush, suffering a severely dislocated kneecap. The team must act quickly to relocate the kneecap and manage the casualty’s excruciating pain, which includes the risk of sedation stopping their breathing.

The Kinder Mountain Rescue team receive a call-out during a training session to the highest point in the Peak District, Kinder Scout. Racing against the clock to reach the casualty, located just below the summit, the team considers the quickest evacuation option: calling in a helicopter. However, landing on the rocky and sloping terrain will present a significant challenge.

Off the Cumbrian coast, the Maryport Inshore Rescue crew faces a dramatic change in sea conditions as they respond to a 4 am call about a broken-down boat four miles offshore. Negotiating two-meter waves, they strive to get a crew member aboard the stranded vessel.
