The Channel 5 show Rescue 999: Seconds to Save a Life returns with its second instalment, airing on Friday, 23 August 2024, at 8 pm. This episode features a range of dramatic real-life rescue missions across the UK.
In Cambridgeshire, the Air Ambulance team responds to a man in cardiac arrest while shopping. Working alongside paramedics already on the scene, the critical care team provides urgent medical assistance to stabilise the casualty and facilitate their transfer to hospital for emergency surgery.
Meanwhile, in the Peak District, the Buxton Mountain Rescue Team springs into action to assist a climber who has suffered a traumatic leg fracture. Due to poor weather conditions, the coastguard helicopter is unable to land, forcing the team to treat the open wound on the ground to prevent further complications.
Off the south coast, near Gosport, a father and son’s jet-skiing outing turns dangerous when their vehicle suffers engine failure. Drifting into an international shipping lane, they risk collision with large vessels passing through. The Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Service race against time to locate them and prevent a potential tragedy.
At the same time, in Portsmouth Harbour, a lifeboat crew is dispatched to aid a woman who has sustained a painful back injury. Unable to move, she must be carefully transferred to a stretcher and brought to shore for medical attention. The challenge lies in locating her boat among the thousands moored in the busy harbour.
