The series premiere of Rescue: HI-Surf introduces viewers to the elite lifeguard team patrolling the North Shore of O’ahu, Hawaii. The episode, airing on Sunday, September 22, immediately following the NFL doubleheader on FOX, focuses on the personal and professional lives of these dedicated first responders.
Captain Sonny Jennings leads the team, which includes his lieutenant Em Wright, veteran lifeguards Will Ready and Laka Hanohano, and new recruits Hina Alexander and Kainalu Emerson. The lifeguards deal with the treacherous Hawaiian waters, rescuing inexperienced tourist surfers and local teenagers while managing their own personal struggles.
Sonny, still grieving the loss of his nephew Zion in an accident, feels a sense of responsibility for what happened. Em, meanwhile, has a romantic history with Will, who is now engaged to another woman. Laka, a Native Hawaiian lifeguard, finds himself drawn to Jenn, a smart and capable EMT.
