Restoring Galveston: Victorian Family Home Preview

Restoring Galveston Key Art

Season 7 of Magnolia Network’s Restoring Galveston kicks off Wednesday, November 13, at 8 p.m. with the Cordrays—Ashley and Michael, purveyors of shiplap and sensible design—tackling a familiar yet tricky challenge: breathing new life into a historic Galveston home. This time, it’s an 1896 Victorian belonging to a family of five, so the stakes are high, and the potential for crayon marks on freshly painted walls is even higher.

The mission, should they choose to accept it (and let’s be honest, they always do), is to drag the living room, bathroom, and dining room into the 21st century without sacrificing the home’s period charm. It’s a tightrope walk between modern functionality and historical respect, and let’s see if the Cordrays can manage not to trip over any antique furniture or stray toddlers in the process. Will there be enough room for both a clawfoot tub and a place to store bath toys? Can a dining room designed for formal dinners coexist with the realities of spilled juice and mac-and-cheese casualties?

This episode is expected to be a decent primer for anyone attempting a similar blend of old and new in their own home, so if you’re considering ripping out your linoleum and installing wide-plank flooring, you might want to tune in. Besides the usual design inspiration, we’re also likely to get a healthy dose of the Cordrays’ collaborative process, which is occasionally charming if you enjoy that sort of thing.
