The ABC is set to air a new six-part crime drama series, Return to Paradise, premiering on Sunday, 8 September, at 7:30 pm. This original spin-off series is based on the hugely successful Death in Paradise franchise, infusing the core elements that made the original a hit with distinctively Australian elements.
The series introduces viewers to the first female lead detective in the Death in Paradise universe, Mackenzie Clarke, portrayed by Anna Samson (Dead Lucky, Wake in Fright, Jack Irish). Mackenzie finds herself forced to return to her small coastal hometown of Dolphin Cove, Australia, under a cloud of suspicion, leaving London and a tarnished reputation behind. Six years prior, she infamously left her ex-fiancé, Glenn (Tai Hara, Austin, Colin From Accounts), at the altar, making her return all the more uncomfortable and unwelcome.
Despite the challenges, Mackenzie’s relentless drive to solve mysteries wins her a place on the local police force. Her dogged determination and strong work ethic slowly gain the respect of her colleagues and the community.
Return to Paradise’s cast includes Lloyd Griffith (Ted Lasso, Nolly), Catherine McClements (Total Control, Ms Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries), and Celia Ireland (Wentworth, Total Control). Each episode will feature special guest stars, including Ardal O’Hanlon (Death in Paradise), Natalie Abbott (Aftertaste), and Jason Chong (Grey Nomads).
The series is created and executive-produced by Peter Mattessi, James Hall, and Robert Thorogood, with Diane Haddon serving as producer.
