Rhod Gilbert’s Growing Pains, 29 April 2024, Comedy Central, “Oti Mabuse, Asim Chaudry, Ellie Taylor”

Rhod Gilbert's Growing Pains

In the latest episode of Rhod Gilbert’s Growing Pains, airing on Comedy Central on Monday 29 April, Rhod welcomes Oti Mabuse, Asim Chaudhry, and Ellie Taylor to the show, where they revisit their teenage years and share embarrassing moments from their adolescence. The guests compete to convince Rhod that their teenage experiences were the most cringe-worthy.

Oti Mabuse, best known for her role as a professional dancer and choreographer on Strictly Come Dancing, shares a different side of herself on the show. Born in Pretoria, South Africa, Oti studied civil engineering before pursuing a career in dance. She followed in the footsteps of her sister, Motsi Mabuse, who is also a professional dancer and later became a judge on Strictly Come Dancing. Oti’s impressive dance skills led her to win the South African Latin American Championship eight times and achieve remarkable placements in other dance competitions.

Asim Chaudhry, a British comedian, writer, director, and actor, is known for his role as Chabuddy G in the BBC mockumentary series People Just Do Nothing, which he co-created. Born in Hounslow, London, to a Pakistani Muslim family, Asim attended Islamic summer schools during his childhood and later met his future collaborators, Hugo Chegwin, Steve Stamp, and Allan Mustafa, at college. Together, they created YouTube mockumentaries, leading to the hit show People Just Do Nothing. Asim has also ventured into music, releasing songs like “Suttin Like That” and “Brown Skin (Drown Him),” addressing the British Asian experience.

Ellie Taylor, an English comedian, TV personality, actor, and writer, joins the show with her own unique story. Born in Brentwood, Essex, Ellie initially pursued a corporate career, but her life took a turn when she decided to quit her job and focus on comedy. Her big break came when she was spotted by a model agency scout, and she later appeared on Show Me the Funny, marking her transition into the world of comedy. Ellie has since written and performed several stand-up comedy shows and presented various TV shows, including Snog Marry Avoid? and Live at the Apollo.
