In Rich Holiday, Poor Holiday, families exchange vacation experiences to explore whether money buys happiness. In this episode, airing on Sunday night, 77-year-old Kath, a pensioner from Bolton, and her 23-year-old granddaughter Nicol embark on a unique journey.
They trade places with husband and wife financial experts, Ken and Mary, for a week of contrasting holidays. Kath and Nicol, who share a close bond and have previously vacationed together, are excited to explore new destinations.
While they have travelled within the UK, Kath has never ventured outside Europe, and they are eager to create lasting memories together. Their adventure takes them to the Sahara desert in Tunisia, an exotic and pampering experience that is a far cry from their usual routines.
Kath, initially unaccustomed to being indulged, gradually embraces the local culture, from shopping in the souk to trying belly dancing and even sampling camel meat.
Meanwhile, Ken and Mary, who advise others on financial matters, find themselves on a tight budget as they swap their luxurious trips for a stay in an off-grid yurt in Cornwall. Their challenge is to practice what they preach and discover if they can still enjoy a fulfilling holiday while spending less.
Will they succeed in making the most of their restricted funds, or will they long for their usual extravagant vacations?
