Ah, April Fools’ Day, a time for harmless pranks and lighthearted fun. Unless, of course, you’re the LAPD, and a seemingly innocent prank on social media spirals into citywide chaos. That’s the premise of Tuesday’s “The Rookie,” which looks set to inject some comedic anarchy into its usual police procedural formula.
“April Fools” finds Officer John Nolan, now a training officer himself, mentoring a new recruit amidst the unfolding mayhem. As the city descends into prank-induced pandemonium, Nolan’s skills will be tested as he tries to maintain order and guide his rookie through the madness. Meanwhile, Attorney Wesley Evers grapples with a complicated case, potentially connected to the fallout from the LAPD’s social media misfire.
And because no good April Fools’ episode is complete without some inter-departmental shenanigans, expect to see Officers Tim Bradford and Lucy Chen stirring the pot with a prank of their own. Will their joke lighten the mood or just add fuel to the fire?
“The Rookie” airs Tuesdays at 9:00 PM ET on ABC.
