GAF is turning its lens on a retired ballerina’s unexpected return to the stage in “A Royal Christmas Ballet,” airing Sunday, December 22. The film sets its sights on a premise that’s as familiar as it is comforting: a former dancer thrust back into the spotlight, a dash of royalty, and a Christmas romance that will likely bloom faster than a poinsettia in a greenhouse.
The story follows our unnamed ballerina (because who needs names when you have royalty and tutus?) as she assists royal ambassadors in staging a production of “The Nutcracker.” Amidst the rehearsals and inevitable costume malfunctions, she’ll also find herself embroiled in a holiday romance, because why not? It’s GAF, they don’t do complicated.
Brittany Underwood and Jonathan Stoddard lead the dance, while Fred Olen Ray directs and pens the script. The combination of ballet, royalty, and Christmas might seem niche, but hey, it’s December, and there’s a specific seasonal audience eager for this kind of harmless escapism. And if the costumes are extravagant enough, it might even be worth a watch while you wrap presents.
“A Royal Christmas Ballet” premieres Sunday, December 22 at 8:00 PM on GAF.
