RTÉ Launches New Eight-Part Series Called Monday Night Live

A brand-new eight-part current affairs panel series called Monday Night Live will premiere on RTÉ One on October 3 at 10.35 p.m.

Each hour-long episode of the new panel discussion show will be devoted to a significant problem affecting people’s lives all over the nation. A presenter will be joined in studio by four panellists each week, and additional live contributions will come from invited guests.

The series will be hosted by journalists David McCullagh, Sharon Tobin, Louise Byrne, and Mark Coughlan, with each of them presenting two programmes.

The eight-part autumn series will cover the main problems affecting people, such as the lack of housing, childcare, and climate change.

The first programme, hosted by David McCullagh, will look at how the cost-of-living crisis is affecting people all over the nation and the difficulties that many of them face on a daily basis in order to survive. We hear that many people this fall are forced to choose between buying food and heating their homes due to rampant food inflation and skyrocketing energy costs. David will hear from members of the government and the opposition, as well as business executives, economists, leaders in the industry, and those who have been most negatively impacted by the crisis, about the potential effects of the crisis as winter approaches.

Paul Maguire, Interim Managing Editor, RTÉ TV Current Affairs said: “Our Monday Night Live series will provide an opportunity to really delve into the issues impacting people’s everyday lives this autumn and winter. Each hour-long programme will provide the time and space to bring together those in power and those directly impacted by the issue under discussion. As well as examining the cause and effect, we will hear from experts and explore potential solutions.”

Ahead of presenting the first episode of Monday Night Live, broadcaster David McCullagh said: “I know so many people are feeling the impact of the spiralling cost of living every day, it’s one of the first things people are talking about. We are going to take an in-depth look at an issue on our new programme, hear from some of those affected, and see what solutions might help them.”

Monday Night Live, premieres Monday 3rd October at 10.35pm on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player.

Monday Night Live is an eight-part series broadcasting on RTÉ One and RTE Player from 3rd October to 30th November 2022.

A brand new on-going TV current affairs series with live studio audience will be launched in January 2023 taking over from Claire Byrne Live. Further details will be announced in due course.
