Saint-Pierre “Island Getaway” (CBC, Monday, January 27, 2025)

Saint Pierre Key Art

In the chilly, isolated island of Saint-Pierre, off the coast of Newfoundland, crime doesn’t take vacations. This week’s “Island Getaway” finds our unlikely duo, Fitz and Arch, facing a familiar foe in an unfamiliar setting. A notorious bank robber, presumably tired of Canadian banking, has skipped town for the supposed tranquility of Saint-Pierre. Fitz, a Newfoundland transplant himself, perhaps understands the robber’s questionable logic. However, understanding doesn’t equate to leniency.

Joining Fitz and Arch in their pursuit is a Newfoundland officer with a past connection to Fitz. Old grudges or shared experiences? The possibilities add a welcome wrinkle to the usual procedural formula. Given Fitz’s track record, one might suspect the Newfoundland officer’s arrival won’t simplify matters, adding a personal dimension to the manhunt. Their shared goal is clear: apprehend the bank robber before Saint-Pierre’s quiet charm becomes a haven for financial fugitives.

This fourth episode of this new police procedural looks to continue the series’ focus on the distinctive law enforcement challenges of Saint-Pierre. The remote location, coupled with the clash of cultures (Newfoundland versus Parisian), provides a backdrop that sets the series apart.

Don’t forget, Saint-Pierre airs Mondays at 9:00 PM on CBC.
