Saturday Night Live: Jon Hamm / Lizzo (NBC, Saturday, April 12, 2025)

Saturday Night Live Generic

Saturday Night Live” welcomes back a couple of familiar faces this week as Jon Hamm steps up to host for the fourth time, joined by fourth-time musical guest Lizzo. Hamm, forever associated with Don Draper but consistently demonstrating sharp comedic timing, slides back into Studio 8H just as his new AppleTV+ series, “Your Friends and Neighbors,” premieres. Expect at least one sketch referencing his advertising past or his new project – it’s practically mandatory.

Hamm’s previous hosting stints have generally been solid, leaning into his suave persona for laughs while also showing a willingness to get silly. Whether he reprises any old characters or tackles fresh material related to current events, his presence usually elevates the proceedings. The writers have plenty to work with, from political absurdity to pop culture ephemera. The real test is finding sketches that play to his strengths without feeling repetitive.

Lizzo, meanwhile, returns fresh off the debut of her new single “Still Bad,” from an album reportedly titled “Love in Real Life.” A dynamic performer known for high-energy stage presence and powerful vocals, Lizzo’s musical spots are generally highlights. She brings an infectious energy that often contrasts well with the sometimes-manic energy of the sketches. Will she join in a sketch or two? It’s always a possibility with charismatic musical guests.
