BBC Two’s powerful documentary series “Saving Lives” returns this Wednesday, taking viewers back inside the immense pressures and complexities of the National Health Service. This week’s episode follows clinicians at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham as they wrestle with incredibly difficult decisions about prioritizing treatments and surgeries when resources are stretched thin.
We see vascular surgeon Lewis Meecham face the frustrating reality of having to cancel patient surgeries simply because there aren’t enough beds available. Meanwhile, neurosurgeon Amr Mohamed must carefully weigh his options to decide which cases need the most urgent attention – like Alyn, a father whose brain tumor is threatening his sight. Cardiac surgeon Indu Deglurkar confronts a similar challenge, assessing whether Stephen, who remarkably survived a 25-minute cardiac arrest, is stable enough for the life-saving operation he needs.
You can watch “Saving Lives” this Wednesday, 30 April at 9:00 PM GMT on BBC Two.
