Jake Tapper, CNN Anchor and Chief Washington Correspondent, is back to explore America’s most notorious controversies. United States of Scandal, the CNN Original Series, returns for its second season on Sunday, March 9, at 9 PM ET/PT.
The six-episode season sees Tapper engage directly with both the perpetrators and whistleblowers involved in some of the most significant scandals in recent history. This season expands its focus beyond politics, encompassing controversies from the corporate world, sports, and pop culture.
“It was a thrill journalistically and also just as an American to get to re-visit and re-examine some of the most notorious scandals of my lifetime,” Jake Tapper commented on his experience creating the second series.
Tapper engages in in-depth discussions with a range of figures. He talks with Anita Hill about the Clarence Thomas Supreme Court nomination, a pivotal moment in American history. He revisits the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal, interviewing former Ohio congressman Bob Ney, who served prison time for his involvement. The series also explores the FBI’s ABSCAM sting operation, featuring a conversation with former South Dakota Senator Larry Pressler.
Moving beyond the political sphere, Tapper interviews the self-described “celebrity con-artist” Anna Delvey. He examines the fall of cycling champion Lance Armstrong with insight from Floyd Landis, Armstrong’s former teammate and the whistleblower who exposed him. Sherron Watkins, who exposed the Enron fraud, also shares her story.
“As always, we try to take a wider look at what happened,” Tapper explained, emphasizing the show’s goal of examining the lasting impact of these scandals. Amy Entelis, Executive Vice President for Talent & Content Development at CNN Worldwide, describes Tapper’s approach as going “beyond-the-headlines“, providing audiences with a deeper, exploration of incidents “that were once tabloid sensations“.
United States of Scandal will be available for live streaming to pay-TV subscribers through CNN.com, CNN connected TV, and mobile apps.
