Jordan Peele’s Scare Tactics returns, ready to inflict another dose of jump scares and nervous laughter upon unsuspecting victims. This week’s menu of terror includes a gardening project gone gruesome, a zombie invasion at a decidedly un-brainy conference, and some sort of canine DNA experiment that probably doesn’t end well for anyone involved (except maybe the audience).
The show’s “cinematic approach” to hidden camera pranks often leads to some amusingly over-the-top scenarios, but the reliance on familiar horror tropes is already starting to feel a bit stale.
It’s a tricky balance to strike between genuine scares and comedic absurdity, and Scare Tactics occasionally stumbles into the realm of predictable. Hopefully, this episode finds the sweet spot between clever and cringeworthy, delivering some solid laughs along with the requisite screams.
