The adventurous couple, Dick and Angel Strawbridge, are back for the final episode of their series, Secret France with Dick and Angel, airing on Channel 4 on Sunday, 16 June 2024, at 7:00 pm. In this instalment, they explore the extraordinary volcanic region of Auvergne, discovering its unique landscape, history, cuisine, and crafts.

Dick and Angel begin their journey in Clermont-Ferrand, a city known for its impressive black cathedral and the Michelin tyre company. However, they are more intrigued by the volcanic labyrinth hidden beneath the streets. They venture deep underground and are treated to a unique tasting experience of a local aperitif. With a 1920s Michelin guide in hand, they then set off to Thiers, a small town renowned for its exquisite cutlery. Dick and Angel uncover how this practical tool has been elevated to an art form.

The couple also visits the historic spa town of Vichy, where they sample the famous mineral waters in the stunning Halle des Sources. They learn about the city’s significant role during World War II as they stand amidst the grandeur of the opera house.

Heavy snowfall adds a magical touch to their trip up the Puy de Dôme volcano, and they warm up by cooking traditional Auvergnat dishes over an open fire in a cosy farmhouse. Dick prepares Potee Auvergnate and Truffade, two regional specialties. Angel, not to be outdone, crafts a surprise of her own.

As their Auvergnat adventure comes to an end, they find themselves beneath the stars, reflecting on their incredible journey.
