Secrets Surface in First Look at Prime Video’s ‘We Were Liars’ Adaptation

We Were Liars Key Art

Prime Video has put out the first teaser trailer for “We Were Liars,” a new mystery thriller series based on the popular novel by E. Lockhart. If you’re a fan of twisty dramas set among the wealthy, this one seems right up your alley.

The show takes place on a private island where the well-off Sinclair family spends their summers. The story focuses on Cadence Sinclair Eastman and her close group of friends, who call themselves “the Liars.” Their sun-drenched vacations take a dark turn when a mysterious accident leaves Cadence’s life upside down and makes her realize that pretty much everyone she knows is hiding something.

The series will land on Prime Video on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, with all eight episodes available for binging in over 240 countries. Emily Alyn Lind plays Cadence, with Shubham Maheshwari, Esther McGregor, and Joseph Zada filling out the rest of the Liars crew.

The cast list also includes Caitlin FitzGerald, Mamie Gummer, Candice King, Rahul Kohli, and David Morse. Behind the camera, “The Vampire Diaries” veteran Julie Plec and “Roswell, New Mexico” writer Carina Adly MacKenzie are acting as co-showrunners, bringing their experience in crafting dramatic, often supernatural, stories to this project. The show comes from Universal Television and Amazon MGM Studios. The teaser gives a hint of the privilege, the pain, and the underlying mystery waiting to be uncovered on that island.
