Anton & Giovanni's Adventures in Spain

In the premiere episode of the brand new series “Anton & Giovanni’s Adventures in Spain,” Strictly Come Dancing stars Anton Du Beke and Giovanni Pernice embark on an exciting journey across Spain, Anton’s motherland. This three-part series kicks off with their exploration of the southern region before traversing through the heart of the country and concluding in the north, where Anton’s mother was born and raised—a place he hasn’t visited in over four decades.

This landmark trip allows Anton and Giovanni to delve into both familiar territory from Anton’s childhood and uncharted regions they’ve never encountered before. The first leg takes them through Andalusia, a captivating region known for its vibrant culture.

Their adventure commences with a dramatic entrance via hot-air balloon just outside Seville, the capital city of Andalusia. Equipped with a list of must-visit places provided by Anton’s Spanish mother, they waste no time immersing themselves in Seville’s famous charm and idyllic weather.

The Plaza de España beckons as their initial stop—an architectural gem constructed in the 20th century that has earned its status as one of Seville’s most adored landmarks. Notably, it features its very own canal adorned with gondolas. True to their spirited nature, a friendly race ensues between Anton and Giovanni upon spotting these iconic vessels—with ice cream treats awaiting the victor.

From there, our intrepid duo meanders through Seville, stumbling upon a shop that sells traditional Spanish hand fans. Little did they know that this seemingly ordinary accessory hides an entire secret language waiting to be deciphered.

The following day sees them venturing towards Ronda, another destination suggested by Anton’s mother—an enchanting town renowned for its breathtaking vistas which have captured countless photographers’ attention over the years.

After indulging in a memorable yacht cruise off Marbella’s coast, it’s time for some exhilarating exercise as Anton and Giovanni traverse the Caminito del Rey, a trail once infamous for its treacherous nature.

Their journey then leads them to Granada, home to the iconic Alhambra—a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Spain’s most visited tourist attractions. They also explore the Sacromonte district, a vibrant neighbourhood steeped in flamenco heritage and the birthplace of this soul-stirring art form. For Anton and Giovanni, witnessing authentic flamenco performances against the backdrop of Andalusian culture becomes an unforgettable highlight of their entire adventure.
