The Shadow, a German psychological thriller based on the novel by Melanie Raabe, lands on the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel and Walter Presents platforms in the US and Canada on Friday, July 4.
The miniseries stars Deleila Piasko as Norah Richter, a journalist seeking a fresh start in Vienna. Her new life takes a sharp turn after a beggar named Dorothea Lechner (Elisabeth Rath) tells her she will kill a man called Arthur Grimm (Christoph Luser) on August 13. The same date, Norah later realises, that her childhood friend Valerie died thirteen years earlier.
As Norah digs into Grimm’s past, she uncovers a trail that may connect him to Valerie. The further she investigates, the more unstable her reality becomes. She questions whether she’s chasing the truth or being manipulated by forces she doesn’t understand.
The story intensifies when Norah is assigned to interview Wolfgang Balder (Andreas Pietschmann), a dying performance artist who becomes both muse and confidant. His presence complicates her emotional state just as the stakes begin to rise.
The Shadow is produced in German and distributed by Walter Presents. It uses a tight, self-contained format to unravel Norah’s psychological unraveling. Trust, memory, and motive are all under pressure as the clock ticks down to August 13.
Streaming availability starts July 4 for viewers in the US and Canada.
