Things are about to get a bit more complicated in the world of “Sherlock & Daughter.” The CW’s freshman mystery series returns this Wednesday with “The Common Thread,” an episode that finds Amelia, Sherlock’s headstrong daughter, taking matters into her own hands – with potentially dangerous consequences.
While Sherlock is off chasing a stolen carriage, he tasks Amelia with a hunt of her own, sending her on a quest across London. But Amelia, determined to crack the case of her mother’s murder, decides to follow her own instincts, straying from her father’s instructions and getting closer to some uncomfortable truths. As Amelia gets closer to answers, however, she also edges closer to danger, a risk that Sherlock, in his infinite wisdom (or arrogance), didn’t anticipate.
“Sherlock & Daughter” flips the classic Sherlock Holmes dynamic on its head, giving us a brilliant but impulsive young woman trying to solve the ultimate cold case while working alongside a father who is both a genius and a complete enigma. It’s a setup ripe with tension and unexpected humor. Written by Brendan Foley and directed by Bryn Higgins, “The Common Thread” airs this Wednesday, April 23 at 9:00 PM ET on The CW.
