Sister Wives “Faith Can Move Mountains” (TLC, Sunday, December 29, 2024)

Sister Wives Key Art

Just when you thought the Brown family’s interpersonal Jenga tower couldn’t get any more wobbly, TLC gifts us with another episode of “Sister Wives.” This week, the tremors are emanating from Robyn’s corner of the family compound, as her daughters contemplate a shift away from their Mormon upbringing. This spiritual exploration, while perfectly reasonable for young adults, doesn’t exactly sit well with patriarch Kody Brown, a man whose filter seems to have permanently malfunctioned.

Kody, apparently, struggles to grasp the concept of keeping his opinions to himself. One imagines him pacing, muttering about the sanctity of tradition while Robyn frantically tries to translate teenage rebellion into something he can comprehend. Meanwhile, Christine, radiating post-Kody bliss, is busy trying on wedding dresses, a visual representation of everything Kody isn’t: happy, forward-looking, and not wearing a denim shirt.

This episode also features a wedding shower for Christine, an event likely to be brimming with supportive women and conspicuously absent of anyone with the last name Brown (except maybe the kids). And just in case you thought things couldn’t get any spicier, Meri, having finally flown the coop, announces her intention to start dating. This development should add some much-needed levity to the proceedings, as we watch Meri rediscover the world of romantic possibilities outside the confines of polygamy.

One can only speculate on the level of awkward small talk at Christine’s shower, or the sheer force of Kody’s inevitable foot-in-mouth pronouncements regarding Robyn’s daughters. But one thing’s for certain: TLC knows how to milk a crumbling family dynamic for all it’s worth. Tune in Sunday, December 29, 2024, at 10:00 PM on TLC to witness the latest chapter in the Brown family saga.
