Sky has released first look images at the second season of its original comedy-drama series, “Funny Woman,” starring Gemma Arterton. The series will debut on September 6, 2024, exclusively on Sky Max and the NOW streaming service.
Set in the swinging 1960s, the new season sees the return of Arterton as Sophie Straw, the nation’s favorite comic actress. This time, Sophie’s story involves managing her thriving career and a romantic connection with Dennis Mahindra, played by Arsher Ali.
The second season explores themes such as love, gender equality, LGBTQ rights, and the importance of representation in comedy. All of this unfolds against the backdrop of the cultural revolution of the 1960s.
The cast additions for this season includes Steve Zissis, Marcus Rutherford, Tim Key, Gemma Whelan, and Roisin Conaty. They join returning cast members David Threlfall, Rosie Cavaliero, and Alexa Davies.
Sophie finds herself at the peak of success as a well-known TV comedy star. She has formed strong friendships, and her relationship with Dennis shows potential. However, challenges arise as Sophie discovers a shocking family secret, and her latest sitcom venture falls short. Seeking a distraction, she takes on a leading film role opposite a French heartthrob.
Despite the film’s success, Sophie feels compelled to return to London, driven by the desire to reunite with her friends and create a new show that challenges societal norms and reflects her true self.
