Sky is set to air a three-part documentary series titled *Boyzone* (wt), giving a rare and exclusive look into the Irish boy band that rose to fame in the 1990s. For the first time in 30 years, band members Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy, Shane Lynch, and Michael Graham will give intimate interviews for this Sky Original production. The series will also include contributions from those closest to the band, including the late Stephen Gately’s sister, Michelle, and his former partner, pop star Eloy De Jong.
The year is 1993. The UK and Ireland are in the grip of boy band mania. From clubs to schools, the search is on for the next big musical sensation. Before the era of TV talent shows, five working-class lads from Dublin were plucked from obscurity and thrust onto the global stage. This is where our story begins.
The Sky Original series, produced by Curious Films, examines the band’s journey from their roots in Dublin to selling 25 million records worldwide. It explores key events in Boyzone’s history, including Stephen Gately’s decision to come out and his subsequent death in 2007, as well as the intense tabloid intrusion.
The series will also address the band’s strained relationships and the impact of fame. With never-before-seen archive footage and interviews, it looks at the highs and lows, including the intense tabloid intrusion in the 90s and their 2007 comeback.
*Boyzone* (wt) is a Curious Films production for Sky. Executive producers for Sky are Tom Barry and Hayley Reynolds. It is directed by Sophie Oliver, and executive produced by Dov Freedman and Charlie Russell.
The series will air soon on Sky Documentaries and the streaming service NOW.
