The brand new comedy series Smoggie Queens has wrapped filming and is set to hit BBC Three and iPlayer this autumn. The series, centered around a group of friends in Middlesbrough’s LGBTQ+ community, boasts a talented ensemble cast and a heartwarming underdog story.
Written by Middlesbrough native Phil Dunning, Smoggie Queens follows the hilarious adventures of Dickie (Dunning), Mam (Mark Benton), Lucinda (Alexandra Mardell), Sal (Patsy Lowe), and Stewart (Elijah Young) as they navigate love, life, and their fierce pride for their hometown. Expect plenty of laughs, heartwarming moments, and a few passionate scraps along the way.
Joining the main cast is a stellar lineup of supporting actors, including Drag Race legend Michelle Visage and Peaky Blinders star Charlotte Riley. Additional cast members include Bill Fellows (Ted Lasso), Steph McGovern, Lauryn Redding (Standing At The Sky’s Edge), Peter McPherson (In From the Side), Neil Grainger (Hebburn), and Michael Mather (It’s A Sin).
Smoggie Queens is a Hat Trick production for BBC Three and BBC iPlayer, with funding support from North East Screen Industries Partnership.
